week 18

This week I am celebrating being at 140 lbs and I went from a size 14 to a size 8!
I am so excited. I admit it was a little snug around the waist but I still wore it. Another 5 pounds will make it perfect fit. Below are some pictures. I started at 162 pounds which is what I weighed on Easter of 2012. The middle pic was about 6 weeks after we started Nutristem. I went from a size 14 to a size 10. The last pic was last week. Size 8! I am so excited. Rick has gone from a XXL shirt to a medium and  a 36 inch waist to a 32.  We are happy with the food and support that we get from Nutrisystem and would recommend it to anyone who needs help losing weight. Especially someone who is diabetic. It was a miracle for Rick to get his blood sugar levels under control.
I really like the lunch bars that I can grab on those days that I am really busy (seems to be a lot of those days lately). I absolutely love the Peanut Butter Bars. Rick's favorite lunch is the Chicken taco or fajita.

Week 17

I did not do well over the Thanksgiving Holiday. I went off the diet for 4 days while we ate and shopped and decorated.  I gained 3 pounds during the 4 day binge. And I felt horrible. I had heart burn every night and bloating . And I was so tired. So I started right back on my diet on Monday morning.  It is amazing to me the difference I felt after the week. I lost 2 of the pound I gained the week before and the heartburn and bloating went away. I threw out all of the leftover goodies and went back to the Nutrisystem dessert bars. I love the peppermint cookie bar. It is my favorite dessert bar. We also got to try the Whoopie pie Ice cream sandwhiches. They were Rick's favorite by far.
We are back on track now and losing the extra pounds that  we put on. I will have to say I was really surprised at how bad I felt when I was off the diet. I was tired and had heartburn and bloating.

For this week I am at 21 lb total loss
and Rick is at 28 lbs total loss

Week 16

I have to admit all of this Holiday eating is hard to resist. So I just do the best I can. I acknowledge that my will power has been pretty low. But I am managing to maintain and keep my weight steady. I really want to take off 5 pounds before Christmas. One of my favorite entrees with Nutrisystem are the flatbread pizza's. I add onions, peppers, and whatever other veggies I have on hand.   I can eat pizza everyday so I am really glad that Nutrisystem  offers this pizza.

Rick is doing well with this diet too. He is not losing any weight but his sugar levels are remaining level.  This week he ran out of medicine because he didn't tell me that he was running low and had to wait for it to come in the mail for a week. So he watched what he ate and followed the diet plan and still managed to keep his blood sugar levels below 200. He has also been able to cut back on the medication he takes for neuropathy in his legs. He only takes half the dose now .

Week 15

Lost another pound this week. That puts me at total of 22 lbs. I just realized this week that another 5 pounds and I will weigh the same as I weighed when I was 25 ( I will be 50 in a couple months). That is exciting.
Rick is still proud to say he is maintaining a normal blood sugar level.

Week 14

Still plugging away. I have to admit that with the Holidays approaching the temptations are a little hard to resist. Still I lost another pound , which puts me at 21 lbs lost. Rick has stayed steady where he is at 30 lbs and normal blood sugars.

Book Review

Meet Your Happy Chemicals by Loretta G Breuning
I found this book to be very informative about how the chemicals in our brain work together to control our happy emotions. It gives practical and easy to understand information about how to build circuits that will create more of these chemicals. We all have choices and we can choose to build more of the positive chemicals or tear down our own happy chemicals.

Book Review

Poverty Sucks! How to become a self-made Millionare  by: Aimee Elizabeth
This is a great book for showing that you can overcome what life throws at you.  We may not be able to control some things but we don’t have to let life’s circumstance dictate what happens to us. Aimee gives good basic information about how to start a business. It is a must read for anyone who is just starting out.

Book Review

The Life Planner by Laura Huber
This is a great tool for the busy person always on the go. It will help set goals, organize and prioritize all of the stuff that we have to do. It even gives a suggestion of things to each month for fun. We all know that sometimes we get so caught up the events of life that we forget to live and have fun.

Book Review

Perfectly Crazy by Mitzi Penzes
This book was a quick read novel. I started and finished it in an hour and a half.  It was interesting and easy to ready; one of those books you just want to finish as soon as you start reading. It had a heartbreaking and joyous storyline. It gives hope to those who may not have found the perfect love, but have still experienced love.  I would read more by this author.

Week 13

I have to admit that we have been a bit off track the last couple of weeks. Having 6 extra people in the house has made following our plan a bit of a challenge.  Between that and work, I have not had time to plan meals the way I should have been. So I skipped some meals and ate some stuff that was not on our plan.  We also skipped the exercising as much. I still managed a 20 minute walk every morning but only made it to the gym once in the last 2 weeks.  So, this being said, I stayed at the same weight for the last 2 weeks. I am still at 20 lb total weight loss for the last 4 months.  I talked to the dietician at my office about it and she said that is not a bad thing. She explained to me that when we have maintained the same weight for a long period, and then go on a diet. Our body continues to try to get back to that “normal” weight. Now she said it will recognize my new weight (142) as my normal and will quit trying to get back to 162. Seems kind of weird to me but in an odd way it makes sense. But I am determined that this week I will get back on track and back to losing. I am determined to take off another 10 lbs by Christmas.
On a brighter note, Rick got his A1C test results back and it was a 7. This means that his blood sugars have been on an average for the last 3 months about 154. His last test 6 months ago was an 11 , so this was a significant change.   He is at his goal weight but still plans on losing 10 more pounds. He has lost a total of 30 lbs.
We know that we could not have accomplished this without Nutrisystem.

Take me to the King

A few weeks ago I bought an Ipod shuffle to download music on to listen to while I exercise. Of course, being that I know nothing about downloading music, I asked my daughter, Beki to do it for me. She knows what kind of stuff I like. I told her to make she put some good Christian music because I prefer that to other venues. So she brought it back it to me saying she had found me some good stuff to listen to. It just so happens that I was having a pretty bad week . I had been talked about by church people, work and family all in the same week. I was beginning to wonder what I did wrong or right to warrant such and attack on my character. That evening I went out to mow and decided to try out the new tunes. As I was listening she had downloaded a gospel song called "Take me to the King"  that spoke completely to how I was feeling. I kept hitting repeat and listening over and over. Then I googled it and found it on You Tube. My Pastor found the soundtrack for me so I could sing it at church. The words of the song speake about coming to Jesus in our broken state and offering that up to Him because that is all we have. It says we are hurting, feeling alone and abused. But it says we are not giving up , we are going to run to Him because He is the answer. Even when we might feel like giving up we don't because His spirit is within us and keeps prodding us on.
This week, I will be singing this song in church for the first time. I don't usually sing with a track but I feel like this song can reach out to someone else who may be hurting and need to know that even with the pain and hurt He is still there and we just need to hold on.

Fall Changes

Today as I drove home from work, I couldn't help but stop and marvel at the beauty of the fall colors. Last week the leaves were green then one day I noticed they were all changing. It happened so fast and many of them are falling already. I love the changing of the seasons. It reminds me of how quickly our lives can change as well. One day things will be going along smoothly and then from out of nowhere trouble or sorrow comes. We are not always ready for it but for those who Believe, we never go through it alone. Sometimes we may even question God about why He is allowing us to go through  such trouble. But He always provides a way of escape. We have to just stand and hold on. Keep believing and find someone who will stand with you and pray with you when you are weak.  Don't forget to stop and enjoy the view God has given us. Change is coming but this too shall pass.

Week 12

This week we had a first. One night Rick woke up feeling weak so I told him to take his blood sugar and it was low. He had to eat some fruit to get it back up.  I think it is time to start cutting back on medication.
I am so proud of him and the accomplishments he has made through strong will and Nutrisystem. I wish we had known long ago before the diabetes caused so much damage. But , even though we can't reverse the damage that has already been done we can stop anything further.  He is very determined to stick to his diet plan through Nutrisystem diabetic program for men.

I have found that I am a stress eater. The more stress I have the more I want to eat. So I try to snack on healthy foods and drink more water. And I have increased exercise because that helps with stress as well.

We have learned so much about how to make better choices when we eat. We owe any success to Nutrisystem and strong desire to make a change.

Week 11

Well this has been an exciting journey. I have lost a total of 20 lbs in the last 3 months and have gone from a size 14 to a size 10.  My goal is another 20 lbs by Christmas. I turn 50 on January 4 and plan to celebrate with new clothes at least a size 8 or smaller.

Rick has reached 30 lb loss and has gone from an XXL shirt to a medium and a 34-36 waist in pants to a loose 32. But mainly his blood sugars are now under control.  He tells everyone he sees that Nutrisystem saved his life. And I am pretty sure he is right.

We continue steadily losing 1-2 pounds a week.  Some days are easier than others but it is all worth the sacrifice. We are happy to be part of the Nutrisystem weight loss program. It really works.

Week 10

Week 10

We are back on track! I have to say that just being off for that week, I could really feel it. I had to take a stomach pill and eat tums a couple of times. But we are doing well now. We both lost a pound this week. That puts our total weight loss: Rick: 28 lbs only 2 pounds away from his goal weight. He is already planning to lose another 10. I have lost a total of 18 pounds. Still 12 pounds from goal but I am getting there. We are going to do measurements again next week to check out our total inches. Rick is still telling everyone Nutrisystem saved his life. Blood sugars are great. We are waiting on test result from his A1C test to come back. This will tell how well he has managed his blood sugars over the last 3 months. It should be under 6 for good control. His last test 8 months ago was 11 , which is really bad. I would have to say that being on Nutrisystem has been the best decision we ever made for our health.

Week 9

This week we did not lose any weight but we did maintain where we were. So no gain is huge. As I look back and review our week, I found several factors that influenced this.
1.    I ordered our food late because we were moving and I didn’t want the food to go to old address.
2.  Typically when I place a food order it is here the week after I order, this time it took 2 weeks, so we ran out of most of the foods. I did the best I could trying to improvise.
3.  Because of the move and putting stuff away, we cut back on exercising.
4.   Rick did really well about sticking to foods that were good for him, but I cheated a couple times, like Snack size chicken bites from McDonald’s and an ice cream cone.

What we learned:
If we stick to what we know is good to eat we can maintain our current weight.
Before we started Nutrisystem we used to take pills for indigestion daily plus eat antacids. We always had heart burn. After we started the program, we have not had heartburn at all and we no longer take either the pill or antacids. But when I cheated with that McDonald’s food, I had heartburn all night.  Now I know that I need stay away from fried foods for good.
But still, we are back on track this week, food has arrived, and I am walking twice a day. Rick is headed back to the gym this week as well.

Week 8

Week 8

We have been super busy so not much time to go the gym, but we have been working hard moving, so I think we burnt plenty of calories this week.
We are steadily losing a pound or more each week. Rick has lost to date 25 pounds and his blood glucose levels have remained in the normal range.  This week he went down to a size 32 waist in pants. I measured his neck because he has lost so much weight in his face and neck. He went from a size 19 to a 17.  It is nothing short of amazing and we are so proud and excited.
I have lost a total of 17 pounds and went from a size 14 to a size 10.
I am posting  pictures of Rick the first was a year ago, the middle Easter 2012 and the third is Sept. 1, 2012. I can’t believe how big he was .  It is quite a difference.

Week 7

Week 7

This week we did our weigh in and measurements. I can’t believe the difference.
Our first week, I entered our start weights and measurements in the Nutrisystem site. This week I went back in and did the same to compare. I am glad I did. I had been calculating Rick’s weight loss from 204 pounds but his start weight was actually 210. I don’t know how I messed that up. But that means he has lost a total of 24 pounds since we started this 6 weeks ago.  He looks so good. I will try to have pictures next week. His total inches lost were 7.5, but that doesn’t count his face and chins. He has always had several chins.  The big bonus for him is his sugar levels have remained normal and he has managed to cut down on medication.
I have lost a total of 15 pounds and lost 11 inches. I went shopping this week and was able to buy one size smaller pants. WOO HOO! I am only getting a couple items to replace the clothes that are too big because I feel a big shopping trip in a few months.
We are amazed!  We are eating healthier and feel great. We are learning to make better choices when we eat out. We each order a salad then we split one meal. We avoid fast food. If we get pizza we order a small and get thin crust vs. the large pan pizza we used to get. All of these little changes make huge differences and it is not as hard as we thought.  I have also gotten a little more creative in the kitchen. It has been an amazing journey so far and we are about halfway to our goal, so, on we go.

Week 6

We spent the week in Florida for work. I tried to take as many pantry meals for breakfast and lunch as I could but we had to wing it a few times. I was served lunch each day and tried to pick and choose what was good and what I really had to turn away .The strawberry shortcake almost won but I took off the top layer and only ate the half of the bottom with the strawberries J The hotel we stayed at had a gym that we went to daily and worked out for 30 minutes.   I thought I did pretty well when I got home and had not gained any weight. I didn’t lose any this week but I have definitely lost inches. All of my pants are too big now.  Last week was a good week for me and I have lost a total of 13 pounds so far.

Rick on the other hand was left on his own during the day while I was in meetings. So he ate the breakfast and lunch bars that I brought along. He is doing so well and I am so proud of him. Not only has his blood sugars remained in the normal range, but he has lost a total of 20 lbs.  Each day he checks his sugar and it is normal makes him more determined to keep going. This week we cut back on his medication. We will monitor daily and as long as he stays in normal range our plan next week is to cut another pill. He has stopped taking this acid reflux pills all together. He has not had any issues with his stomach since we started the diet.

He was wearing XXL shirts when we started and before going to Florida I bought him size Large. Now they are getting really baggy. He has added additional holes on his belt as well. His pants fall down without even unfastening them.  We are just amazed.
All in all it has been a great week. He continues to tell everyone that Nutrisystem saved his life.

Week 5

This has been a great week. I lost 3 pounds and won the biggest loser at work for this week. We have weekly winners and at the end of 6 weeks a big winner. It helps keep me motivated plus I have others encouraging me to keep going. I have to admit I am pretty proud of myself. All of my clothes are getting looser but also my skin is starting to hang as well. I am definitely going to have to start working on tightening that back up.  I managed to get to the gym one day and that is a start. I had a really busy week as we were getting ready to head to Florida.

Rick is still keeping blood sugars at normal range for 5 weeks in a row. Next week we are going to start cutting down on meds. I am so excited that he has finally taken control of this. Diabetes is nothing to mess around with. He continues to tell everyone that Nutrisystem saved his life. I think maybe he might be right. He went to the eye Dr and found out that he has damage there but hopefully with his blood sugar staying normal, it will not get worse.

We are so happy and excited to be on this path to better health.

Week 4

 Week 4

We are losing it slow but sure. Rick lost another pound and his sugar levels are still in the normal range. I am down 2 more pounds. I was so excited to get on the scale this morning and it was below 150 pounds. I have not been below 150 lbs. in years. I was thinking I was stuck with all this extra weight because I had tried losing it before and got discouraged and gave up.  I had been to the Dr. to try to find out why my metabolism was not working and he told me I was not eating enough. Now my logical thinking is if you want to lose weight, you eat less. But the Dr said because I was only eating once a day, my body was hanging on to it because it was in starvation mode. While his explanation made sense, I just didn’t put it into action. I had gotten into the habit of snacking during the day and only eating a meal in the evening. Usually that consisted of fast food/pizza.

With the Nutrisystem program, I am eating at least 6 time’s day and I am losing the weight. I will admit that it is not easy eating changing your eating habits that have been developed over the years. Sometimes I get a craving for something that I just have to have. So I indulge but not to the extreme. I have always been a big Dr Pepper drinker and one day this past week, I just wanted one so bad. So I went through the carry out and bought one. I drank half and poured the rest out. So I still count that as success. I have noticed that stress seems to trigger these cravings (Dr. Pepper and chocolate), so I am going to try some new stress relievers.

Last week we joined a gym, but didn’t have time to go, so that was on this week’s plan. I started last night and we are going together today.  I see this as a two-fold opportunity. We will be benefiting ourselves with the physical exercise and also doing something together.
So we are off to another successful week.

Week 3 : Still Losing

So, it was an uneventful week but we each lost another pound. Rick continues to keep his blood sugar at normal range. That in itself is a miracle. We made a big decision this week to join a gym. I had purchased an elliptical machine the first week we started but I have a bad knee and have not been able to use it much. I know that exercise is important for weight loss success so we decided to join Snap Fitness. If you join on line you get the first 30 days free to try it out. So starting July 30 we will be making our first trip. I am noticing lots of flabby skin where we are losing the weight and need to do some toning. I don’t want my grandkids call me the grandma with “bingo arms” (flab that hangs down under the arm that swings when you raise your hands to bingo). They have informed me that I already have them so I need to get to work. We will be in Florida for a week (work trip) and I am trying to figure out how to stick to the plan while we are gone. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Week 2: Looking Good

This week we did not have a really great weight loss but we had still had victories.
Rick only lost 1 pound but his sugar was in the normal range (70-120) all week. I know that for some this may not seem like a big deal but his sugar has not been anywhere near the normal range for at least 2 years.
He is so excited that he tells everyone he sees that Nutrisystem saved his life.
I lost only one pound as well, but I lost 2 inches on my waist and 1 inch around my chest. So it is all good.
I have to admit that I think the reason for my low weight loss is that I was so busy that I skipped a few meals. I just didn’t have time to stop and eat. So next food order I will order more ready to grab lunches. I am so busy during a work day that I can’t always stop to eat.
I also got online and checked out some recipes to try so I am ready for a new week and new food dishes.
Stay tuned and I will let you know which ones I tried and which ones we liked.

It's a Miracle: Week One

Week One: It’s a Miracle

I would have to say that Week one on Nutrisystem was a success. I am so excited to finally find a program that works. As of the end of week one I have lost 8 pounds. I know that this is not going to be the normal loss but it is enough to kick start me into wanting to keep working on it. I have to admit that I had a few cheats but nothing big. I took the grandkids to McDonald’s and I found myself eating fries as I was plating their food. I realized this week that I am a grazer. I nibble on food while I am cooking, I find myself wanting to munch on snacks while I am working. I had not noticed this before I had to watch everything I ate. I will have to admit that the program is not hard but at first it is time consuming. I had to plan ahead what our meals were and what our add in groceries would be. It took a little time to write a grocery list then plan each day in advance. I also had to portion out the veggies and fruits; otherwise Rick would eat more than allowed. We had developed a lot of unhealthy eating habits that will take some time to break. But we are excited to be in this journey.
My husband, Rick, also lost 8 pounds but even better news is that his sugar levels have dropped almost to normal. For the first time in years, this week his sugar was only 150 in the morning. I can’t remember the last time it was under 200 and his “normal” was usually 350. We went to the Dr for his regular checkup and talked with the Dr about it. He said the goal for his sugar levels is to be under 200 (normal range is 70-120). He explained that anytime my husband’s sugar is over 200 it is causing damage to his body, even if he can’t feel it happening. He told him to keep doing what he is doing and he wants to follow up in a month,May even lower some of his medication. So we are super excited that it is this low.Rick says he can see better and he has more energy. I chuckle when I see him running in place and swinging his arms around. His exercise has been nearly nonexistent. I have been telling him for a year that pushing the buttons on the remote does not count as exercise.  I purchased an elliptical and the first day he could do about 5 rounds, now he is up to 100. I even overheard him on the phone telling our Pastor that Nutrisystem saved his life.
Thanks to Nutrisystem for making this success possible for us. Looking forward to more great results.

You never know

I love summertime. The grandkids are in sports and keep us very busy running to different games and juggling the schedule so they all get fair time. School is out and  and some of  them  spend more time with us. But I see that as they grow older they are also busy and do not want to spend as much with Grandma as they used to. That is when  I have to get more creative and entice them to come with promises of junk food fests. LOL.
But I love and cherish every moment I have with them. I read of families losing loved ones and kids dying from different diseases or tragedies and I am so grateful that God has kept His hand on my family.

A few weeks ago we were on our way home and saw an accident. The ambulance and rescue vehicles were there and we could see one of the autos involved was a white van and the other was gray and too mangled for us to tell what type of car it was. Our first thoughts were to call our two daughters and check on them, one of them drives a white van and the other a gray Taurus. Thankfully, they were both home safe with their families.

My second thought was , although my kids are safe someone will be getting a call that says their family member was in an accident and injured. I started praying for those families. It reminded me of the many families that are hurting because of tragedies and bad news that they get. We go about our daily business but somewhere someone is struggling just to make it through another day. Some one may be stuck , grieving for a lost loved one and can't seem to go on.

June is typically a hard month for us. My husbands mother and step dad both died in the month of June and my own mother's birthday is on June 20. But my time of grieving is past. How can I feel sad knowing my mom is no longer in pain but is in Heaven celebrating her birthday with Jesus.

Lesson Learned this week: Celebrate life, love those who are still here with us, give of ourselves to help others, rejoice in the blessing that God has given us.

This is my Story

This year I had the honor of sharing the message on Mother’s Day at our church. I thought I would share with you on my blog as well. While I was researching I also came across this list of things that “My mother taught me”. As I read through them, I could almost hear my own mom saying them. Then I read a second time and realized that I have said some of the same things to my own girls. Here it is:

Things My Mother Taught Me...
My mother taught me TO APPRECIATE A JOB WELL DONE
"If you’re going kill each other, do it outside - I just finished cleaning!"
My mother taught me the power of Prayer
"You better pray that will come out of the carpet."
My mother taught me LOGIC
"Because I said so, that’s why."
My mother taught me HOW TO MEET A CHALLENGE
“Answer me when I talk to you! Don’t talk back to me!”
My mother taught me to think ahead.
"Make sure you wear clean underwear, in case you’re in an accident."
My mother taught me IRONY
"Keep laughing and I’ll give you something to cry about."
My mother taught me about CONTORTIONISM
"Will you look at the dirt on the back of your neck!"
My mother taught me about BEHAVIOR
MODIFICATION
"Stop acting like your father!"
My mother taught me about ENVY
"There are millions of less fortunate children in this world who don’t have a wonderful mother like you do!"
My mother taught me about JUSTICE
“One day you’ll have kids and I hope they turn out just like you!”

Mother’s teach us a lot of important things but it also important to learn to laugh.
Just as I recall saying these things to my own children, one day they will sit around and say “Remember when mom used to say……..” Our legacy is what we leave behind. What people will say about us when we are gone. It is our story. We are writing our own story as we live every day. Every decision we make, everything we do , becomes part of our story. One day when we are gone, people will sit around and share stories about us, the remember when stories, what will your story be?

We have the power to write that story while we are still here on earth. Every day we are faced with problems, circumstances that we can’t control, just life. How we respond to those situations is what people will talk about when you’re gone.

We are not perfect by any means, we have made mistakes and we will make more mistakes. But how we react to those time will be determine the story that people tells about us. We can’t go back and change what our story has been up till now but we determine what the rest of the story will be.

We are passing down to our children and their children our legacy. That is what God intended for us to do. We tell our stories to our children and grandchildren, of how we have overcome, how God has provided for us, how He made a way for us when it seemed impossible. We keep telling these stories and one day our children will be up here telling the stories. That is our legacy. We are writing our own stories.
Lesson Learned: What is your story? You can do have input on what people will say about you when you are gone. You determine that story now while you’re alive. So, think about it with every choice you make…. What is your story?

Moving Forward

Moving forward

We sing a song at church that says” I’m not going back, I ‘m moving ahead. I ‘m hear to declare to you, my past is over.”

A couple weeks ago we moved (again) and as I sorted through stuff, I realized how much we have that means nothing.  I went through clothes that were either too small or too big; sorted through books, and other stuff that just accumulates through time.

It reminded me of how we allow things to build up in our spiritual life. Maybe someone offended us, or we just allowed life to interfere with our spiritual walk. We used to read our Bible regularly, now it is only when we can squeeze in the time. We used to love to serve others now when someone needs help our answer isn’t”what can I do to help” but instead we say “I don’t know if I have time.”
Maybe we need to take time to clean up our life spiritually as well as physically. Get rid of things that are weighing us down or just taking up space; useless things that we do that hinder our walk with Christ.

Moving is like getting a fresh start. I have cleaned and thrown out many things and put fresh coat paint on walls.  Getting rid of things in our spiritual life that weigh us down can give us a fresh start as well. It is important to take inventory periodically to keep us on track.

Lesson Learned this week: When we are busy cleaning our physical house, stop and take a spiritual inventory and clean up that as well. Fresh starts are great and sometimes we all need one.

God Bless and have a great week.

Who is the Judge

Sometimes we are forgetting that we are not the judge and jury of others. We are all human and make mistakes. But (especially Christians) there are times when we look at others and see their many faults, shortcomings and we pass judgment on them based on the many mistakes they make.  Out of our mouths we speak words of forgiveness but in our minds we are thinking “doesn’t matter they will just mess up again”, and in our hearts we are just waiting for that next mistake to come.  Is that truly how Christ wants us to be with each other? I don’t think so. When we accept Him as our Savior, He forgives and forgets. As far as the east is from the west,;that is how far our sins are from us. When He sees us, He sees His blood. So does Satan. Think about it, if we are covered by the blood then even when Satan looks at us to try to destroy us, he can’t, because he can’t cross the blood line. So he plays in our minds and tries to trick us into destroying ourselves.  Satan is the accuser of the brethren. So he gets us to look at the faults of others and before we know we are caught up in that judging and finding our brothers and sisters lacking. Then we start accusing and destroying each other.  This is his plan to stop Christians from being witnesses and saving the lost. He can’t get us so he gets us to attack and destroy each other. We are too busy trying to pluck the splinter out of our brother’s eye that we can’t see the beam in our own. If we as Christians could really grasp this truth, then we would be able to reach those who are lost and need Jesus. We could show the true love of Christ and this is what will draw people to Him.

This week’s lesson learned: I need to look in the mirror at my own faults and leave others alone. If my brother is overtaken by a fault (sin) I will lift them up in prayer and help them not judge and destroy them. I will look for Satan’s plan to destroy and I will not allow my mind to become his playground. I will stay focused on Christ and showing His love to others.
I am so glad that He looked beyond my faults and saw my needs.

God Bless and have a great week.

Time change

I just finished my homework for this quarter of school. I am rejoicing for a short break, even if it is only a week or so. I also just realized that we are changing time again this weekend. I feel like we just set the clocks back an hour and it is already time to set them back up. Time is swiftly passing.  Sometimes time has a way of getting away from me. I make plans, set goals and before I know it the time has come and gone and I got little accomplished. Up until this past week, I have been working a lot of overtime trying frantically to “catch up” and feeling desperately that I am drowning. Finally, I realized, I am only one person and I can only do so much. So I have lightened my load and I am just doing what I have to and if things fall behind (and they have) I will catch up with it sooner or later; As long as the important stuff is done.

I have to prioritize the important things in life, work, family, God. I have a lot of changes coming ahead for me and I am ready to embrace all that God is calling me to do. I just need to stop and let Him direct the way, instead of trying to figure it out ahead of time. This will be quite a challenge but I am up for it.
We were able to spend some wonderful time with some dear friends on Sunday afternoon. Singing the old hymns ,reading scriptures and talking about our experiences with the Lord. I had a boatload of homework that I had planned to do but this was a special time that I am so glad I changed my plans for. The brother we were there to visit will soon be going to meet Jesus and when we got there he cried and when I asked if the singing would make him feel better he said yes, he loves the singing so that is how we spent the day. We never know how much time we have to do things with people we love so we should never miss the opportunity to spend with family and friends.

           This week’s Lesson:

Stop and take time to enjoy life and family and serving God and others. Time is passing quickly and the opportunities may pass you by if you are too busy to enjoy them.

Don't take God for Granted

This weekend we had revival services at our church. On Saturday the minister was preaching and he said “Some of you are going through a desert place and you feel like you are all alone and wonder where God is”.  I felt God speak to me and say “That’s you”.  I said back to Him, “No, that’s not me. I go to all of the services, I work in the church, I even share the word sometimes, I raise my hands during the worship, and I pray with people in the alter. So no, that it is not me that preacher is talking about”.  I went through my whole list of all the things I do, and then I no sooner finished when the preacher said, “you may be coming to church and raising your hands and praying in the alter, but you are just going through the motions.”  And I knew in that moment that yes, it was me.
Sometimes we go through our spiritual life and we think we are doing ok but we are just going through the motions. We have become so good at having church that we have stopped expecting God to do anything. I was amazed that I had gotten into this place of complacency and didn’t even realize it.  I am so glad that God sees us where we are and even if we can’t see it, He knows what we need and when we need it.
My lesson for this week: Do not take God for granted. Expect the unexpected. Look for Him to show up in your life.  Check yourself and see if you are truly where He wants you to be or are you just going the motions.  I am so glad He showed up this weekend and I feel rejuvenated and refreshed in Him.
Have a blessed week.

Big Umbrella

When I first started my job about 3 1/2 years ago, I had to drive to Lima to the office everyday. One day it was raining so I was running a little later than usual and got stuck behind a school bus.  I waited while the bus driver made several stops. At one stop a man dressed in a suit came out with 2 children , probably around 7 and 8 and he had a big umbrella. He held it over the kids while he walked to them to the bus and made sure they got on ok and then walked back to his house. As I watched this scene unfold , I very distinctly heard the Spirit of God speak to me and say, " That is what I do for you. When you go through the storm, I can't promise you won't get wet but I will there to protect you ." I remember driving the rest of the way with tears streaming, thanking Him for showing me such an awesome revelation. We can't stop the storms from coming, and we can't run and hide from them, but God has a big Umbrella that He holds over us to protect us. We may get a little wet, and we may feel the wind blow but He is always there protecting us until we get safely through. I still remember that day everytime I drive by that house.

Lesson Learned: Trust in Him , He walks us through the storms and we are never alone.

Sticks and Stones

Anyone ever “put your foot in your mouth”? I seem to be the queen of this. I can’t tell you how many times I have to apologize (grudgingly) for saying something that hurt someone and I didn’t even know that I did it.

The Bible says the tongue is sharper than a two-edged sword and boy is that true.

Proverbs 21:23 says: Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps himself out of trouble.

Today I am reminded as I witnessed someone very close to me brought down by the careless words of another. Do we sometimes need to be told things that may hurt? Yes. But it should be done in love to help that person who needs the guidance. Not in a hurtful way that tears someone down. But we are all human and sometimes we forget that the words we say can’t be taken back no matter how many times we say “I’m sorry”. Sometimes those words need to be said, but we should always be careful with the way we approach others. Some people put up a good front so that others may never know the damage of their words. But inside they are broken and hurt.

Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.

I am probably guiltier that anyone I know, but I am learning. Yes even at 49 years old I am still learning. So, today the lesson is short and sweet. Think before we speak, and if something has to be said, say it in love being careful of the fragile hearts and feelings of others.

Have a good week!
