Moving Forward

Moving forward

We sing a song at church that says” I’m not going back, I ‘m moving ahead. I ‘m hear to declare to you, my past is over.”

A couple weeks ago we moved (again) and as I sorted through stuff, I realized how much we have that means nothing.  I went through clothes that were either too small or too big; sorted through books, and other stuff that just accumulates through time.

It reminded me of how we allow things to build up in our spiritual life. Maybe someone offended us, or we just allowed life to interfere with our spiritual walk. We used to read our Bible regularly, now it is only when we can squeeze in the time. We used to love to serve others now when someone needs help our answer isn’t”what can I do to help” but instead we say “I don’t know if I have time.”
Maybe we need to take time to clean up our life spiritually as well as physically. Get rid of things that are weighing us down or just taking up space; useless things that we do that hinder our walk with Christ.

Moving is like getting a fresh start. I have cleaned and thrown out many things and put fresh coat paint on walls.  Getting rid of things in our spiritual life that weigh us down can give us a fresh start as well. It is important to take inventory periodically to keep us on track.

Lesson Learned this week: When we are busy cleaning our physical house, stop and take a spiritual inventory and clean up that as well. Fresh starts are great and sometimes we all need one.

God Bless and have a great week.
