Week 7


Week 7

This week we did our weigh in and measurements. I can’t believe the difference.
Our first week, I entered our start weights and measurements in the Nutrisystem site. This week I went back in and did the same to compare. I am glad I did. I had been calculating Rick’s weight loss from 204 pounds but his start weight was actually 210. I don’t know how I messed that up. But that means he has lost a total of 24 pounds since we started this 6 weeks ago.  He looks so good. I will try to have pictures next week. His total inches lost were 7.5, but that doesn’t count his face and chins. He has always had several chins.  The big bonus for him is his sugar levels have remained normal and he has managed to cut down on medication.
I have lost a total of 15 pounds and lost 11 inches. I went shopping this week and was able to buy one size smaller pants. WOO HOO! I am only getting a couple items to replace the clothes that are too big because I feel a big shopping trip in a few months.
We are amazed!  We are eating healthier and feel great. We are learning to make better choices when we eat out. We each order a salad then we split one meal. We avoid fast food. If we get pizza we order a small and get thin crust vs. the large pan pizza we used to get. All of these little changes make huge differences and it is not as hard as we thought.  I have also gotten a little more creative in the kitchen. It has been an amazing journey so far and we are about halfway to our goal, so, on we go.

Week 6



We spent the week in Florida for work. I tried to take as many pantry meals for breakfast and lunch as I could but we had to wing it a few times. I was served lunch each day and tried to pick and choose what was good and what I really had to turn away .The strawberry shortcake almost won but I took off the top layer and only ate the half of the bottom with the strawberries J The hotel we stayed at had a gym that we went to daily and worked out for 30 minutes.   I thought I did pretty well when I got home and had not gained any weight. I didn’t lose any this week but I have definitely lost inches. All of my pants are too big now.  Last week was a good week for me and I have lost a total of 13 pounds so far. 

Rick on the other hand was left on his own during the day while I was in meetings. So he ate the breakfast and lunch bars that I brought along. He is doing so well and I am so proud of him. Not only has his blood sugars remained in the normal range, but he has lost a total of 20 lbs.  Each day he checks his sugar and it is normal makes him more determined to keep going. This week we cut back on his medication. We will monitor daily and as long as he stays in normal range our plan next week is to cut another pill. He has stopped taking this acid reflux pills all together. He has not had any issues with his stomach since we started the diet.

He was wearing XXL shirts when we started and before going to Florida I bought him size Large. Now they are getting really baggy. He has added additional holes on his belt as well. His pants fall down without even unfastening them.  We are just amazed.
All in all it has been a great week. He continues to tell everyone that Nutrisystem saved his life.

Week 5

This has been a great week. I lost 3 pounds and won the biggest loser at work for this week. We have weekly winners and at the end of 6 weeks a big winner. It helps keep me motivated plus I have others encouraging me to keep going. I have to admit I am pretty proud of myself. All of my clothes are getting looser but also my skin is starting to hang as well. I am definitely going to have to start working on tightening that back up.  I managed to get to the gym one day and that is a start. I had a really busy week as we were getting ready to head to Florida.

Rick is still keeping blood sugars at normal range for 5 weeks in a row. Next week we are going to start cutting down on meds. I am so excited that he has finally taken control of this. Diabetes is nothing to mess around with. He continues to tell everyone that Nutrisystem saved his life. I think maybe he might be right. He went to the eye Dr and found out that he has damage there but hopefully with his blood sugar staying normal, it will not get worse.

We are so happy and excited to be on this path to better health.

Week 4





 Week 4

           We are losing it slow but sure. Rick lost another pound and his sugar levels are still in the normal range. I am down 2 more pounds. I was so excited to get on the scale this morning and it was below 150 pounds. I have not been below 150 lbs. in years. I was thinking I was stuck with all this extra weight because I had tried losing it before and got discouraged and gave up.  I had been to the Dr. to try to find out why my metabolism was not working and he told me I was not eating enough. Now my logical thinking is if you want to lose weight, you eat less. But the Dr said because I was only eating once a day, my body was hanging on to it because it was in starvation mode. While his explanation made sense, I just didn’t put it into action. I had gotten into the habit of snacking during the day and only eating a meal in the evening. Usually that consisted of fast food/pizza.

With the Nutrisystem program, I am eating at least 6 time’s day and I am losing the weight. I will admit that it is not easy eating changing your eating habits that have been developed over the years. Sometimes I get a craving for something that I just have to have. So I indulge but not to the extreme. I have always been a big Dr Pepper drinker and one day this past week, I just wanted one so bad. So I went through the carry out and bought one. I drank half and poured the rest out. So I still count that as success. I have noticed that stress seems to trigger these cravings (Dr. Pepper and chocolate), so I am going to try some new stress relievers.

Last week we joined a gym, but didn’t have time to go, so that was on this week’s plan. I started last night and we are going together today.  I see this as a two-fold opportunity. We will be benefiting ourselves with the physical exercise and also doing something together.
So we are off to another successful week.
