Book Review

Meet Your Happy Chemicals by Loretta G Breuning
I found this book to be very informative about how the chemicals in our brain work together to control our happy emotions. It gives practical and easy to understand information about how to build circuits that will create more of these chemicals. We all have choices and we can choose to build more of the positive chemicals or tear down our own happy chemicals.

Poverty Sucks! How to become a self-made Millionare  by: Aimee Elizabeth
This is a great book for showing that you can overcome what life throws at you.  We may not be able to control some things but we don’t have to let life’s circumstance dictate what happens to us. Aimee gives good basic information about how to start a business. It is a must read for anyone who is just starting out.

The Life Planner by Laura Huber
This is a great tool for the busy person always on the go. It will help set goals, organize and prioritize all of the stuff that we have to do. It even gives a suggestion of things to each month for fun. We all know that sometimes we get so caught up the events of life that we forget to live and have fun.

Perfectly Crazy by Mitzi Penzes
This book was a quick read novel. I started and finished it in an hour and a half.  It was interesting and easy to ready; one of those books you just want to finish as soon as you start reading. It had a heartbreaking and joyous storyline. It gives hope to those who may not have found the perfect love, but have still experienced love.  I would read more by this author.

Week 13

I have to admit that we have been a bit off track the last couple of weeks. Having 6 extra people in the house has made following our plan a bit of a challenge.  Between that and work, I have not had time to plan meals the way I should have been. So I skipped some meals and ate some stuff that was not on our plan.  We also skipped the exercising as much. I still managed a 20 minute walk every morning but only made it to the gym once in the last 2 weeks.  So, this being said, I stayed at the same weight for the last 2 weeks. I am still at 20 lb total weight loss for the last 4 months.  I talked to the dietician at my office about it and she said that is not a bad thing. She explained to me that when we have maintained the same weight for a long period, and then go on a diet. Our body continues to try to get back to that “normal” weight. Now she said it will recognize my new weight (142) as my normal and will quit trying to get back to 162. Seems kind of weird to me but in an odd way it makes sense. But I am determined that this week I will get back on track and back to losing. I am determined to take off another 10 lbs by Christmas.
On a brighter note, Rick got his A1C test results back and it was a 7. This means that his blood sugars have been on an average for the last 3 months about 154. His last test 6 months ago was an 11 , so this was a significant change.   He is at his goal weight but still plans on losing 10 more pounds. He has lost a total of 30 lbs.
We know that we could not have accomplished this without Nutrisystem.

Take me to the King

A few weeks ago I bought an Ipod shuffle to download music on to listen to while I exercise. Of course, being that I know nothing about downloading music, I asked my daughter, Beki to do it for me. She knows what kind of stuff I like. I told her to make she put some good Christian music because I prefer that to other venues. So she brought it back it to me saying she had found me some good stuff to listen to. It just so happens that I was having a pretty bad week . I had been talked about by church people, work and family all in the same week. I was beginning to wonder what I did wrong or right to warrant such and attack on my character. That evening I went out to mow and decided to try out the new tunes. As I was listening she had downloaded a gospel song called "Take me to the King"  that spoke completely to how I was feeling. I kept hitting repeat and listening over and over. Then I googled it and found it on You Tube. My Pastor found the soundtrack for me so I could sing it at church. The words of the song speake about coming to Jesus in our broken state and offering that up to Him because that is all we have. It says we are hurting, feeling alone and abused. But it says we are not giving up , we are going to run to Him because He is the answer. Even when we might feel like giving up we don't because His spirit is within us and keeps prodding us on.
This week, I will be singing this song in church for the first time. I don't usually sing with a track but I feel like this song can reach out to someone else who may be hurting and need to know that even with the pain and hurt He is still there and we just need to hold on.

Fall Changes

Today as I drove home from work, I couldn't help but stop and marvel at the beauty of the fall colors. Last week the leaves were green then one day I noticed they were all changing. It happened so fast and many of them are falling already. I love the changing of the seasons. It reminds me of how quickly our lives can change as well. One day things will be going along smoothly and then from out of nowhere trouble or sorrow comes. We are not always ready for it but for those who Believe, we never go through it alone. Sometimes we may even question God about why He is allowing us to go through  such trouble. But He always provides a way of escape. We have to just stand and hold on. Keep believing and find someone who will stand with you and pray with you when you are weak.  Don't forget to stop and enjoy the view God has given us. Change is coming but this too shall pass.

Week 12

This week we had a first. One night Rick woke up feeling weak so I told him to take his blood sugar and it was low. He had to eat some fruit to get it back up.  I think it is time to start cutting back on medication.
I am so proud of him and the accomplishments he has made through strong will and Nutrisystem. I wish we had known long ago before the diabetes caused so much damage. But , even though we can't reverse the damage that has already been done we can stop anything further.  He is very determined to stick to his diet plan through Nutrisystem diabetic program for men.

I have found that I am a stress eater. The more stress I have the more I want to eat. So I try to snack on healthy foods and drink more water. And I have increased exercise because that helps with stress as well.

We have learned so much about how to make better choices when we eat. We owe any success to Nutrisystem and strong desire to make a change.
