Take me to the King

A few weeks ago I bought an Ipod shuffle to download music on to listen to while I exercise. Of course, being that I know nothing about downloading music, I asked my daughter, Beki to do it for me. She knows what kind of stuff I like. I told her to make she put some good Christian music because I prefer that to other venues. So she brought it back it to me saying she had found me some good stuff to listen to. It just so happens that I was having a pretty bad week . I had been talked about by church people, work and family all in the same week. I was beginning to wonder what I did wrong or right to warrant such and attack on my character. That evening I went out to mow and decided to try out the new tunes. As I was listening she had downloaded a gospel song called "Take me to the King"  that spoke completely to how I was feeling. I kept hitting repeat and listening over and over. Then I googled it and found it on You Tube. My Pastor found the soundtrack for me so I could sing it at church. The words of the song speake about coming to Jesus in our broken state and offering that up to Him because that is all we have. It says we are hurting, feeling alone and abused. But it says we are not giving up , we are going to run to Him because He is the answer. Even when we might feel like giving up we don't because His spirit is within us and keeps prodding us on.
This week, I will be singing this song in church for the first time. I don't usually sing with a track but I feel like this song can reach out to someone else who may be hurting and need to know that even with the pain and hurt He is still there and we just need to hold on.

Fall Changes

Today as I drove home from work, I couldn't help but stop and marvel at the beauty of the fall colors. Last week the leaves were green then one day I noticed they were all changing. It happened so fast and many of them are falling already. I love the changing of the seasons. It reminds me of how quickly our lives can change as well. One day things will be going along smoothly and then from out of nowhere trouble or sorrow comes. We are not always ready for it but for those who Believe, we never go through it alone. Sometimes we may even question God about why He is allowing us to go through  such trouble. But He always provides a way of escape. We have to just stand and hold on. Keep believing and find someone who will stand with you and pray with you when you are weak.  Don't forget to stop and enjoy the view God has given us. Change is coming but this too shall pass.

Week 12

This week we had a first. One night Rick woke up feeling weak so I told him to take his blood sugar and it was low. He had to eat some fruit to get it back up.  I think it is time to start cutting back on medication.
I am so proud of him and the accomplishments he has made through strong will and Nutrisystem. I wish we had known long ago before the diabetes caused so much damage. But , even though we can't reverse the damage that has already been done we can stop anything further.  He is very determined to stick to his diet plan through Nutrisystem diabetic program for men.

I have found that I am a stress eater. The more stress I have the more I want to eat. So I try to snack on healthy foods and drink more water. And I have increased exercise because that helps with stress as well.

We have learned so much about how to make better choices when we eat. We owe any success to Nutrisystem and strong desire to make a change.

Week 11

Well this has been an exciting journey. I have lost a total of 20 lbs in the last 3 months and have gone from a size 14 to a size 10.  My goal is another 20 lbs by Christmas. I turn 50 on January 4 and plan to celebrate with new clothes at least a size 8 or smaller.

Rick has reached 30 lb loss and has gone from an XXL shirt to a medium and a 34-36 waist in pants to a loose 32. But mainly his blood sugars are now under control.  He tells everyone he sees that Nutrisystem saved his life. And I am pretty sure he is right.

We continue steadily losing 1-2 pounds a week.  Some days are easier than others but it is all worth the sacrifice. We are happy to be part of the Nutrisystem weight loss program. It really works.

Week 10

Week 10

We are back on track! I have to say that just being off for that week, I could really feel it. I had to take a stomach pill and eat tums a couple of times. But we are doing well now. We both lost a pound this week. That puts our total weight loss: Rick: 28 lbs only 2 pounds away from his goal weight. He is already planning to lose another 10. I have lost a total of 18 pounds. Still 12 pounds from goal but I am getting there. We are going to do measurements again next week to check out our total inches. Rick is still telling everyone Nutrisystem saved his life. Blood sugars are great. We are waiting on test result from his A1C test to come back. This will tell how well he has managed his blood sugars over the last 3 months. It should be under 6 for good control. His last test 8 months ago was 11 , which is really bad. I would have to say that being on Nutrisystem has been the best decision we ever made for our health.

Week 9

This week we did not lose any weight but we did maintain where we were. So no gain is huge. As I look back and review our week, I found several factors that influenced this.
1.    I ordered our food late because we were moving and I didn’t want the food to go to old address.
2.  Typically when I place a food order it is here the week after I order, this time it took 2 weeks, so we ran out of most of the foods. I did the best I could trying to improvise.
3.  Because of the move and putting stuff away, we cut back on exercising.
4.   Rick did really well about sticking to foods that were good for him, but I cheated a couple times, like Snack size chicken bites from McDonald’s and an ice cream cone.

What we learned:
If we stick to what we know is good to eat we can maintain our current weight.
Before we started Nutrisystem we used to take pills for indigestion daily plus eat antacids. We always had heart burn. After we started the program, we have not had heartburn at all and we no longer take either the pill or antacids. But when I cheated with that McDonald’s food, I had heartburn all night.  Now I know that I need stay away from fried foods for good.
But still, we are back on track this week, food has arrived, and I am walking twice a day. Rick is headed back to the gym this week as well.

Week 8

Week 8

We have been super busy so not much time to go the gym, but we have been working hard moving, so I think we burnt plenty of calories this week.
We are steadily losing a pound or more each week. Rick has lost to date 25 pounds and his blood glucose levels have remained in the normal range.  This week he went down to a size 32 waist in pants. I measured his neck because he has lost so much weight in his face and neck. He went from a size 19 to a 17.  It is nothing short of amazing and we are so proud and excited.
I have lost a total of 17 pounds and went from a size 14 to a size 10.
I am posting  pictures of Rick the first was a year ago, the middle Easter 2012 and the third is Sept. 1, 2012. I can’t believe how big he was .  It is quite a difference.
